Introduction
Many believers know how to pray.
But few believers know how to respond after they pray.
What happens after prayer often reveals whether we are walking in faith or fear.
We may pray with confidence, yet moments later return to worry:
“Will God answer?”
“Did He hear me?”
“What should I do now?”
Scripture gives us a different way to respond.
⸻
1. Pray With Confidence
📖 1 John 5:14–15
“This is the confidence that we have in Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.”
God does not want us to approach prayer with uncertainty about whether He hears us.
When we pray according to His will, we can pray with confidence because God hears us.
Our confidence is not based on how strongly we feel or how perfectly we pray.
Our confidence comes from who God is and what His Word says.
📍 Key Point
Confidence in prayer comes from knowing God’s will.
⸻
2. Understand Why God’s Word Matters
The Bible is more than information.
God’s Word reveals His will, His character and His promises.
When we pray according to God’s Word, we are aligning our prayers with what God has revealed.
This is why knowing Scripture matters.
The more we know God’s Word, the more confidently we can pray according to His will.
📍 Key Point
God’s Word gives us confidence in prayer.
⸻
3. What Should Your Response Be After Prayer?
This is where many believers struggle.
We pray — and then immediately return to fear, worry and doubt.
But if we truly believe that God hears us, our response should change.
After prayer, respond with:
✅ Thanksgiving
✅ Faith
✅ Obedience
You don’t have to see the answer before you begin responding in faith.
⸻
4. Thanksgiving Demonstrates Trust
If you believe God has heard you, thank Him.
Thanksgiving is more than being grateful after receiving an answer.
Thanksgiving can be an expression of confidence while you are still waiting.
When you thank God before you see the outcome, you’re reminding your heart that your confidence is in God’s faithfulness — not in what your circumstances currently look like.
📍 Key Point
Thanksgiving is faith expressing confidence in God’s faithfulness.
⸻
5. Faith Acts Before the Evidence Appears
One of the greatest misunderstandings about faith is thinking that faith only responds once there is proof.
But biblical faith responds to God’s Word before the evidence appears.
Consider Abraham.
He acted on God’s Word before he saw the fulfilment of the promise.
Consider Noah.
He built before the rain came.
In both examples, God’s Word came first.
The action of faith followed.
Faith does not mean pretending that circumstances don’t exist.
It means refusing to allow circumstances to have the final word when God has already spoken.
📍 THE PIN
Faith acts on God’s Word before the evidence appears.
⸻
6. Obey What God Has Told You
Faith is more than simply believing something intellectually.
Faith responds.
Sometimes the response God is looking for is an act of obedience.
You may have prayed for direction, and the next step is to obey what God has already shown you.
You may have prayed for change, and God may be asking you to take a step of faith.
You may have prayed for provision, and the next step may require obedience rather than anxiety.
📍 Key Point
Obedience is faith in action.
⸻
Practical Application
So what should you do after you pray?
This week:
1. Pray according to Scripture.
Let God’s Word shape your prayers.
2. Thank God that He hears you.
Don’t wait until you see the answer before you express gratitude.
3. Refuse to return to fear and doubt.
When anxiety rises, return to what God has said.
4. Take the corresponding step of obedience.
Ask:
“What has God already told me to do?”
Then obey.
5. Continue standing on His promises.
Don’t abandon faith simply because you haven’t seen the manifestation yet.
⸻
🙏 Prayer
Father, thank You that You hear us when we pray according to Your will.
Help us to trust Your Word, stand on Your promises, and respond with faith, thanksgiving and obedience.
Strengthen our hearts while we wait.
When we cannot see the answer, help us trust Your faithfulness.
When fear rises, remind us of what You have said.
Give us courage to take every step of obedience You place before us.
Help us to walk confidently in Your Word, knowing that You hear us and that You are faithful.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
⸻
Conclusion
Prayer makes the request.
Faith responds because God has heard.
You may not see the answer yet.
You may not see the evidence yet.
But you can still thank God, trust His Word and obey.
Because:
📍 THE PIN
Faith acts on God’s Word before the evidence appears.
And remember:
🔑 Faith is access, not effort.
